About the event
Jeanette Bornholt, with the Cultural and Heritage Collections of Foley Public Library, will speak about the treasures of ancient ruins discovered in Baldwin County with emphasis on the infamous ruins of Bon Secour. Creek Indians, as well as other tribes such as Choctaw, have long ago inhabited the land of current Baldwin County. With the inviting waters of Perdido Bay on the east and Mobile Bay on the west saw sails of ships of Hernando De Soto, the year 1540. The first large European army ever to set foot in the interior of the current United States marched into southwest Alabama. All these legacies left behind centuries of ancient ruins in our own back yards.
Jeanette has been a librarian with the Foley Public Library for over 30 years and with the Alabama, Local History & Genealogy Collections from the beginning. The immense growth of materials have the collections being renamed to Cultural and Heritage Collections to cover the wide and varied research and resource materials available for the interested public.
